<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Even though we might not want to admit it while we are still in our swimsuits and shorts, fall is just around the corner. Pretty soon back to school clothes and supplies will be the focus, so we’re here to lighten your load by making an easy scrub uniforms fall fashion guide! We’ll highlight the season’s hottest trends and ways that you can look stylish while still wearing <a href="http://www.uniformadvantage.com/" target="_blank">medical uniforms</a>. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><u><b>Tangerine Hues</b></u>: Bright orange was dubbed the “it” color for summer, and lucky for our wallets it’s not going anywhere this fall. If bright orange is too loud for your personal style, try a muted version, but don’t blame us when you start craving pumpkin pie! Try: </span></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Koi Scrubs Crush Print Top ~The perfect combination of festive fall and style. This top has a floral design in autumn’s classic colors, and a fashionable mock wrap to keep the fit feminine and tailored just for you! </span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Butter-Soft Scrubs by UA 3-Pocket Wrap Top in Pumpkin~ With Butter-Soft fabric, you’re guaranteed to be cozy and comfortable, which is crucial for a (seemingly) never-ending workday! The muted orange color is a great way to wear orange without it being overpowering. </span></li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><u>Plaid Power</u></b>: This fall classic is a great investment, since it is a timeless piece that never goes out of style and can work from season to season. Best part about these scrub top versions is that they are fitted just for women, to put a modern and flattering twist on this style staple. Try: </span></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Barco NRG Plaid Mandarin Collar Top in Black Plaid or Cayenne Plaid ~ This junior fit top has a fitted back and v-neck so the plaid style has a feminine touch. It comes in either black plaid or maroon/red plaid, so you can mix and match with your favorite fall scrub pants! </span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Cherokee Flexibles Wild About Plaid Scrub Top ~ Combining two of our favorite fall trends, animal prints and plaid, this scrub top is modern and ultra-trendy! </span></li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><u><b>Fierce Felines</b>:</u> When every season’s runway looks come out, there always seems to be a common theme, and that’s animal prints, whether they’re in apparel, shoes, or accessories. So, channel your inner feline and you’ll be ready to prowl down the catwalk in these animal print scrub tops. Try: </span></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Koi Scrubs Lovely Cheetah Print Top ~ Classic cheetah print paired with a rounded v-neck, gathered front, and raglan sleeves make this top super flattering and versatile. </span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Koi Scrubs Leopard Print Top ~ A contemporary take on traditional leopard, with light purple trim this top is the perfect mix of edgy print and soft, feminine colors. </span></li>
</ul>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The nursing profession has a very rich and colorful history. Long before the era of modern nursing, the military and religious orders already provided nursing care to individuals and families, focusing on hygiene and comfort. This practice of providing nursing-like activities flourished until the 16th century when the world witnessed the breakdown of many religious orders resulting in the deterioration of nursing care. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">As soon as we started nursing school, we acquainted ourselves with the most popular women in nursing history. Florence Nightingale, Dorothea Dix, Virginia Henderson, and Clara Barton are immortalized in nursing textbooks. We are not only familiar with these women leaders but we studied their contributions to the nursing profession as well. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Unknown to many, there were men who helped make the nursing profession become what it is today. As early as 300 A.D., a group of male nurses called the parabolani (or parabalani) devoted their lives to providing direct nursing care to those who needed it. These selfless men established a hospital and cared for the sick and buried the dead during various plagues that swept Europe. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Male nurses from various religious orders practiced nursing throughout the Middle Ages. Benedict of Nursia or St. Benedict, founded the Benedictine Order, a religious organization devoted to the care of the sick. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">In the 14th century, the Alexian Brothers cared for those who were sticken with the bubonic plague. The Alexians are widely recognized for helping many communities survive the Black Death, the most vicious pandemic in human history. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">St. John of God and St. Camillus of Lellis were also nurses. St. John of God was a Portuguese-born priest who devoted his life to caring for the sick and poor. He is the patron saint of hospitals, the sick, and nurses. St. Camillus, on the other hand, was a military man who established the Order of Clerks, Minister of the Sick. He was also the first to use the red cross as a symbol charity and service. Other military and lay orders were also involved in the practice of nursing during these times. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">During the 18th century, a slave named James Derham, purchased his freedom by becoming a nurse. Although he did not have a medical degree, he proceeded to practice medicine and became the first African-American to formally open a medical practice in the United States. During the Civil War, a poet named Walt Whitman volunteered to work as a hospital nurse in Washington, D.C. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There may be a few men who became popular in nursing history but their contributions undeniably helped nursing evolve into a highly specialized profession devoted to the delivery of sustainable healthcare to individuals, families, and communities. And like Florence Nightingale, they practiced nursing because they wanted to care for the sick and provide comfort for the poor. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">We hope that when asked who were the famous male nurses in nursing history, you can now confidently give an answer. You are not expected to remember all the names mentioned in this article, but perhaps, you can at least name one. </span><br />

<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">SPONSORED ARTICLE</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">When it comes down to the prints vs. solids debate, most everyone in the medical field has their own opinion. Some think that printed, cartoon scrubs are silly and unprofessional and others insist that these tops can have an overwhelming positive effect on their patients (even those medical professionals who aren’t in pediatrics!)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Those in favor of unit-wide matching solids argue that having different departments and titles (CNA, RN, etc.) wearing matching scrub colors makes it easier for patients to recognize who’s who and that also aids in improving staff unity. Many also believe that this sleek, unified look enhances professionalism. Some think that a standardized uniform is worth it just to not have to worry about anything in the morning while you’re getting ready for your shift! But does someone’s outfit dictate their ability to do their job, or does their job performance display that? It’s a heavily debated question. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Those who dispute this theory that matching improves patient perception and staff morale think that choice in scrubs allows for individual expression through <a href="http://www.uniformadvantage.com/">medical uniforms</a> and serves as a mood booster, even for adults! These healthcare workers claim that in a stark-white, sterile hospital environment, a cheery nurse in printed scrubs may be just the ticket for bringing a mood-lifting smile to a patient’s face. These supporters believe that if they are happy as employees, it will increase their job satisfaction and patient care. Their behavior and skills should speak for their ability to perform their job, not their scrub top. If you were a patient in a hospital unit around Halloween or Christmas, would a nurse in a festive holiday scrub top be a welcome distraction to temporarily take the patient’s focus off of being sick, or would it be a display of unprofessionalism? Some even support this side for a different reason altogether; that since the hospital isn’t paying for the scrubs, and the employee is, they shouldn’t be told what they have to spend their money on. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">How do you feel about this hot-button topic for the medical field? Are you required to adhere to a dress code, and if so, are you happy with this? </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It's been a while since we last wrote about monthly visa bulletins issued by the American State department here at <b><a href="http://filipinonurse.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Pinoy RN</a></b>. So let's see what's new in the visa front.</span></div>
<div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The table above shows that in June last year, Filipino nurses waiting since September 15, 2005 (or earlier) were seeing progress in their immigrant petition to work in the United States. Fast forward to today, and we see that the priority dates moved nine (9) months. </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">While still retrogressed, the monthly visa bulletins show a slow but consistent progress in the processing of nurse petitions.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Between family, friends, and work it may be difficult to get a moment for yourself, much less have time to update your work wardrobe with this season’s trendy colors and hottest styles.
Fear not, we’re going to cover a few ways you can spruce up your wardrobe (while staying budget friendly!) by mixing and matching old and new uniform pieces. </span></div>

<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Step 4: Most importantly: make sure that the colors you pick are ones that you will feel confident wearing, not just because they’re “right”! Feeling good about your appearance will be the best accessory for your <a href="http://www.uniformadvantage.com/" target="_blank">scrubs</a> and put the spring in your step. </span></blockquote>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">To embellish on Step 3 here are some easy ways to get the most out of your existing tops and a guide for what to look for when buying new tops to get the most bang for your buck: </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Cardigan style warm-up jackets and lab coats like the Koi scrubs Olivia jacket or Koi scrubs Geneva lab coat are a great way to “dress up” scrubs on the job—they’re also a great way to store your cell phone, keys, etc. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Jackets are great for complimenting a printed top with a corresponding solid pant </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Ones that feature elastic cuffs help keep you warm in chilly air conditioned buildings and keep sleeves out of your way on the job! </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Wrap tops often have contrasting trim, which will provide you with more options for corresponding bottom colors </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Not only are floral, polka dot, and other printed tops fun and cheery for your co-workers and patients, but they allow you a more broad scope of pant options because you can wear pants of any of the featured colors and still match! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">When flipping through the pages of your favorite fashion magazine you’ll frequently see articles on choosing the best bathing suit, dress, or business attire for your body type. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So why not do the same for <a href="http://www.uniformadvantage.com/" target="_blank">scrubs</a>, especially since those in the medical field wear them much more frequently than swimwear! We’ve identified the best cuts and styles of scrubs based on four common body types to help you look and feel your best while on the job: </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Hourglass or Curvy:</b> full bust that is equal or very close in measurement to your hips, narrow waist. </span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Choose clothes that work with your natural curves, this way your outfit will encourage the correct proportions </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Look for high-waisted, straight leg pants so the eye is drawn to a thin middle </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Don’t: Don shapeless or boxy styles, like baby-doll tunics or oversized cardigans </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Try: <a href="http://www.uniformadvantage.com/pages/dpt/cherokee-uniforms.asp" target="_blank">Cherokee scrubs</a> mock wrap tunic, wrap tops create a diagonal movement across the body which is more forgiving and the v-neck flatters curves without overdoing it </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Rectangle or Straight:</b> strong, broad shoulders, proportional hips and the lack of a highly defined waist. </span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Wear a fitted jacket to “break up” the shape and create a more defined waist </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Select styles that cinch at the middle but flare out at the bottom to boost curves, like boot-cut pants which give the impression of all-around shapeliness </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Don’t: Pick anything too flowy or unstructured like Empire-waist tops </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Try: Ruffles, fluttery sleeves, and ruching help to add volume to bust and shoulders, which subsequently adds definition to the waist </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Triangle or Pear:</b> hip measurement is larger than bust measurement and a small to average sized waist, shoulders and torso are narrower than the hips. </span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Look for dark wide-leg pants, they will slenderizes thighs while creating a longer and slimmer silhouette </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Opt for boatneck tops under a hip-length jacket, drawing attention to the open neckline broadens the shoulders to offset fuller hips and evens out lower body proportions </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Don’t: Reach for skinny pants, they won’t create a flattering shape, along with items that are too oversized
Try: Printed tops draw the eye upward, paired with a solid, dark pant to elongate, try the Cherokee scrubs ½ elastic ½ drawstring waist pant for a smooth shape </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Inverted Triangle:</b> large bust, wide shoulders, small hips (more top-heavy vs. bottom-heavy). </span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Stay away from large prints or horizontal stripes on top </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Do: Lean toward darker colors to make you appear thinner </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Don’t: Go for high necklines, puffy or gathered sleeves, and prominent collars or frills, these will exaggerate width </span></li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Try: V-neck, side stretch panel tops, the contouring and vertical seaming will help create a favorable line, paired with boot cut or cargo pocket pants to “balance” overall shape </span></li>
</ul>
<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
